Mechanical Lead – Hospital Project – Plymouth
 

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Lead to take charge of mechanical services delivery on a major hospital refurbishment and fit-out project in Plymouth. This is a critical role ensuring high-quality installation, coordination, and commissioning of complex mechanical systems in a live healthcare environment.
 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all mechanical works on site from pre-construction through to commissioning and handover.
  • Coordinate mechanical designs, resolve technical queries, and review contractor design portion (CDP) submissions.
  • Manage mechanical subcontractors, ensuring works are delivered safely, on schedule, and to hospital-grade quality standards.
  • Attend and chair mechanical coordination meetings with consultants, subcontractors, and client representatives.
  • Oversee quality control and compliance for all mechanical installations, ensuring adherence to healthcare regulations and project specifications.
  • Develop and manage mechanical commissioning plans, witness testing, and ensure accurate O&M documentation is produced.
  • Support post-handover activities including seasonal commissioning, client demonstrations, and defect resolution.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to site teams on mechanical systems.
     

Requirements:

  • Significant experience delivering mechanical services on hospital or healthcare projects, ideally in live or occupied environments.
  • Strong technical background in HVAC, public health, BMS, and plant systems within healthcare or complex building environments.
  • Skilled in managing the interface between mechanical design, commercial controls, procurement, and on-site delivery.
  • Knowledge of healthcare-specific standards, commissioning protocols, compliance, RAMS, and quality close-out procedures.
  • Proficient in software tools such as MS Project or Asta, and experienced in managing technical documentation and commissioning records.
  • Degree or trade-qualified in Mechanical Building Services or a related discipline.
  • SMSTS, CSCS, First Aid.

Package:
